State VMA Experience
Getting started in your local or state VMA can be a daunting task. Finding what you are interested in and where you feel like your contributions will makes a difference is essential. I have been very fortunate to be involved in my Vermont VMA for over 12 years.
VVMA Executive BoardDr. Karen Bradley first joined the Vermont VMA Executive Board as chair of the VVMA Animal Welfare Committee in 2003. The Board members recognized growing issues in the state legislature that needed VVMA input and many of these issues were animal welfare related. As she moved into the legislative area of VVMA volunteer work, she also was elected to the AVMA House of Delegates to represent Vermont and the VVMA.

VVMA Governmental Relations Committee ChairFounded in 2005, the VVMA Executive Board created a Legislative Advisory Committee (now know as the Governmental Relations Committee) on a recommendation by Drs. Karen Bradley and Julie Moenter (tasked with the exploratory phase of this project). A lobbyist firm was selected and hired by the VVMA to help monitor legislative issues of concern that the VVMA should be consulted on. Karen chaired this committee until 2013 and remains an active member of this committee. She frequently provides testimony to legislative committees and is a key contact person for the VVMA at the statehouse.
